We teenagers are part of a maturing and growing up process where our emotions are rather unstable which means we get frustrated easily over the smallest thing. And why does this happen? Because growing means growing in ego as well. We don't want to be at the wrong. We hate it in fact.
One of the main things we all hate is comparison and being compared to. Say for example your parents compare you with your cousin in terms of academics. You would feel extremely annoyed because your defence would be both of you are two different individuals. That's what you see. But from your parents point of view, they have been raising you since you were a kid so they saw and still do see the potential in you that you overlooked
You don't spend a second to think that they may be right but instead you start answering back and even worse you would scold them for having a vision of how they want their own child to be. Unfair, no? What if you were in their shoes? When you have a kid in the future, wouldn't you want what's best for them either?
Though, I got to admit at times the comparison is too far fetched. Because we can't compare a Ferrari with a Kancil. Certain comparison is unfair, but we gotta always strive for improvement. They might compare you to Mark Zuckerberg but you know you have the slimmest chances the world to be like him let alone half of the man he is. But there are things which you could take out from him and make yourself a better person.
Being a teenager I know how it feels, but you will reach to a point where you really matured and you would see things differently that your parents were right most of the time. While we think that our parents only do comparison because they want to show us how lousy or useless we are compared to whatever we are being compared to. But no, their intentions are always wanting us to be better. Not to be who you are compared to, but to be better.
You probably don't realised that your parents' pushing has been really helpful in your life. They moulded you and made you a better person. One day you will realised it. They say it's better late than never. I would say if you could do it now, why wait for later?
"it's never too late". I beg to differ, I'm afraid there is too late. Nothing last forever, which means whatever you have today, you might not have it tomorrow. Don't be too late to cherish what you have today.
This post may not be applicable to everyone as we are all raised differently. But if you could relate to those, let me know what you think :)
Til my next post, have a great day people.
